I have to admit, as fun as Halloween can be with all of the parties, costumes and the abundance of sweets, I have never really got into decorating my home for the holiday. The decor I had seen in the past always seemed to look slightly cheap, and the bright orange, black, and white color scheme never seemed to appeal to my decorating palette. It wasn’t until last year, I was at a Halloween party and the decor there was so festive, yet still very chic! I was immediately inspired but disappointed as it was the eve of Halloween (no point in decorating then!) I made it a point to hit up some of my favorite home decor stores (insert…Hobby Lobby) after Halloween to score some cool decor for the following year. While it is still a work in progress, I fully intend on working my way up to having a spooky, yet chic, Halloween decorated home by this time next year. (Tip:Keep in mind, good decorating takes time. You do not want to go buy all of your decor in one day as it does not tend to flow as nicely throughout the home) To add to my very small, yet growing collection of Halloween decor are these DIY spooky Halloween candle holders. I came across the idea from Real Simple (one of my favorite lifestyle mags) and had to re-create for myself!
What You Need:
- New or old sheer pantyhose (I chose new because they are more elastic)
- Scissors
- Candle holders (I purchased mine from the dollar store)
- Glue stick
- Small pillar candles (I chose white but any color would do)
{Measure the height of the candle holder next to the pantyhose and cut just a 1/4″ higher. PS-Cat hair sticks to EVERYTHING!}
{Stick the candle holder down into the foot area of the pantyhose and pull the pantyhose up ensuring a tight fit}
{Once you have determined the accurate length, begin applying glue to the lip of the glass and on the outside of the holder as well}
{Once you have applied the glue, adhere the pantyhose to the glass and press in place until dry. Then take scissors and begin scraping at the material to create small holes and tears}
{Voila! Spooky Halloween candle holders}
