I’m convinced that every girlfriend group needs to take a least a couple weekend trips throughout the year. There is something so exciting about piling into the car with your favorite snacks, music and your best girlfriends to kick off a warm spring weekend. Last weekend my O.G. crew (aka, my two best high school girlfriends) took off for Lake Erie, Ashtabula to be exact. My best friend’s aunt owns a beautiful home right on the lake front and it has since become a little retreat for all of us, especially throughout the spring and summer months. When I say this home is beautiful, I mean, b.e.a.uuuuuuutiful! Her aunt has such an eclectic way of decorating her home that makes you feel like you just walked into Elle Decor magazine. She is definitely my home decor muse. Anyways, we arrived per usual to her warm hospitality, a full glass of red wine and a sunset that was to die for.
This trip was exactly what I needed. We arrived at about 5:30 pm, cracked open our first bottle of red, cranked up the music and ordered some delicious pizza from this cute little pizza joint called Capo’s. My favorite part of that evening was crawling into the bed well after midnight with the cool lake breeze blowing into the windows. It was so relaxing. The next morning, I laid in bed admiring the sunrise on the lakefront, I mean, who wouldn’t love to wake up to a view like that every morning?! I forgot just how beautiful Lake Erie is. I used to travel up there with my family when I was little but my appreciation for it was just not what it is today.
Anyway, let me get back on track! So, Saturday we woke up, made a hearty breakfast, sipped coffee and talked about how well we slept (lol, that’s #adulting for you!) It’s funny how the days that you choose to relax, are the days that go the fastest. Before we knew it, it was 6:30 and we were brainstorming our dinner plans. We decided on a cute dive restaurant in Geneva on the Lake called Eddie’s Grille. The. Burgers. Were. BOMB! I highly recommend trying it for yourself if you ever find yourself at Geneva on the Lake. Don’t forget to take a long some cash though, as this is the only form of payment they accept. We spent the rest of the evening around the fire pit with some wine and good conversation to end the day.
Sunday morning was an absolutely beautiful day. So beautiful that we decided to head down to the beach. The home had private beach access and was very secluded; definitely a perfect spot for relaxing. We stayed at the beach for about two hours before turning in to pack our bags and head home. Thankfully storm clouds were rolling in so we didn’t feel too bad about leaving that view but let me just say, even with a gray sky, the lake view was beautiful. So you want to hear the best part about all of this? Her home is listed on Airbnb and this gorgeous home can be yours for the weekend too! Check out her availability and book your trip before the summer is over, I promise you won’t regret it!
