It’s wild to sit here and think that A) I officially have a two-year-old, and B) her Curious George birthday party was already over two months ago. Other mamas always told me how quickly time would fly once I had Gisele, but I don’t think I truly understood until now. If life had a pause button, I’d be using it all the time.
But today’s post isn’t about me being overly nostalgic (though it’s tempting!). It’s about sharing the inspiration behind Gisele’s Curious George birthday party, the little tips I picked up while planning, and how I pulled it all together on a budget.

Why Curious George, though?
A little backstory. When I first started letting Gisele have some screen time, I knew I wanted it to be content that was either educational, age-appropriate, or just plain nostalgic (because let’s be real—cartoons aren’t what they used to be… and yes, I realize I sound very old saying that LOL). Curious George checked both the age-appropriate and nostalgic boxes.
It quickly became our Saturday morning ritual: I’d make her breakfast, and she’d watch George’s silly little adventures. It was calm enough to start her day without overstimulating her, but still fun and engaging. I also loved knowing there was nothing in the show I had to worry about (aside from George’s endless curiosity, of course).
Fast forward, and Curious George has become her breakfast buddy almost every morning. And honestly? I’m okay with that. Watching her laugh at the screen while she eats her toast is the sweetest part of my morning.
So naturally, when it came time to brainstorm her second birthday, a Curious George birthday party was the obvious choice. The bright yellow color palette, the playful characters, the quirky little details—it just felt right. Plus, if you know me, you know I can’t resist a unique party theme.

All the curious details.
What started as a “simple” idea for a small, intimate birthday with just grandparents and cake quickly spiraled into… well, something much bigger. (Honestly, Drew should’ve known better—I’m physically incapable of keeping a party small-scale.) Once I started pinning ideas, the details took over. Suddenly it was midnight and I was ordering mini bananas off Amazon for cupcake toppers.
And you know what? I regret nothing. Seeing Gisele’s face light up when she walked into her Curious George birthday party made every single detail worth it.
When I begin planning any party, I always start by searching for inspiration and thinking about what the guest of honor loves most. For Gisele, the choice was obvious—Curious George. Starting with something personal ensures the party has a story woven into it, and that’s what makes it feel extra special.

Once the theme was set, I made a list of elements I wanted to bring in. Of course, Pinterest is filled with over-the-top ideas (and trust me, I was tempted), but I wanted to stay mindful of our budget. Instead of recreating everything I saw, I focused on a few standout details: a bold centerpiece for the dining table, playful balloons, themed table décor, and framed artwork. Those small but intentional touches are some of my go-to tricks for pulling a party together without overspending.
For example, I printed a cute illustration of Curious George icing a cake and hung it in our dining room. On the food table, I added little character tags for each dish—my favorite being “Hundley’s Hotdogs” (named after the dachshund in the show). These little labels cost almost nothing to create thanks to Canva, but even if design isn’t your thing, Etsy has tons of affordable printables. To tie it all together, I added a banana split bar (because what’s a Curious George party without bananas?). It doubled as a fun activity for the kids and was such a hit!

Another detail I loved was having Curious George episodes playing quietly in the background on the TV. No one sat down to watch, but it was a clever little layer that sparked fun conversations. I also found an idea on Pinterest that I couldn’t resist—using popcorn buckets as vases filled with yellow flowers. Since George and the Man with the Yellow Hat are often snacking, it felt like a subtle nod that tied in perfectly with the theme.

And then came my favorite DIY: tiny yellow hats. I scored small orange cones at DollarTree, spray-painted them yellow, and wrapped black electrical tape around the base. They looked like mini versions of the Man with the Yellow Hat’s iconic hat and turned out so cute. Finally, balloon bundles in Curious George’s signature colors helped bring it all together.

Everything I used was either DIY’d, picked up from Target, Amazon, or Dollar Tree, and in the end, I pulled off a cohesive, playful theme without going overboard on the budget.

A Sweet Ending to Our Curious George Birthday Party.
At the end of the day, the party wasn’t just about balloons, banana splits, or tiny yellow hats—it was about celebrating our sweet girl turning two. I still can’t believe how quickly these years are flying by, but getting to pause for a day and see her joy surrounded by the people who love her most made it all worth it. The Curious George theme was just the cherry on top.
If you’re planning a Curious George birthday party, or any party for that matter (big or small), my biggest advice is to start with what your child loves, layer in a few intentional details, and don’t stress about recreating every Pinterest-perfect idea. The magic is in the memories, not the price tag. And trust me—seeing your little one’s face light up is better than anything you could order off Amazon at midnight.
