Halloween has quickly become one of my favorite holidays. The costumes, the candy, and the feeling that a cool October evening brings, give me it all. I’ve already pulled out the spooky decor, the scary movies are working their way into my Netflix rotation, and I’m brainstorming my Halloween costume as we speak.
Every year my best friend and I get together to pass out Halloween candy for the trick-or-treaters in my neighborhood. It’s become a fun tradition that we’ve carried throughout the last few years but one thing has been missing, some sweet treats for us!
So it’s no surprise I’ll find any excuse to be festive, enter a Halloween candy charcuterie board. It’s a fun, colorful, and delicious centerpiece for any Halloween party or get-together. This is an easy way to add some pizzazz to your Halloween party or trick-or-treat night. I mean, why give out all the candy anyway? You have to indulge a little too. After all, Halloween isn’t just for the kiddos.
The best part about any Halloween candy charcuterie board is that there are no rules, just have fun and don’t overthink it. You literally need three things to make a simple candy charcuterie: a board, some spooky accouterment, and candy, that’s it. Another bonus, a Halloween candy charcuterie board is much less expensive than the meat and cheese varieties (hello, savings!)
Fun tip: I hit up the dollar store to get smaller bags of some of my favorite candy. Since I wasn’t going to need a lot of any variety, that was a great way to save some money.
What you’ll need:
- A medium to large-sized decorative serving tray or a bamboo cutting board.
- Small, decorative Halloween accessories to mix throughout. These fake bugs and glitter pumpkins are the perfect size.
- Candy in various colors, shapes, and flavors to keep a good variety
How to style your Halloween candy charcuterie board
This is where your creativity will come into play.
- Start with your larger items first, whether it be a decor element or candy.
- Place those items in three different sections of the board. I never like to keep the same items too close together when building a charcuterie. I also style my board using the rule of three. This keeps the board from looking too symmetrical.
- Once my larger pieces are placed, I start adding in other items. I sometimes add small containers to add a little height to the spread. These are great for candy like Reese’s Pieces or M&M’s.
- Next, I’ll do a quick assessment to see how everything is looking. Is there anywhere that is too heavy with one color or candy? If so, I’ll add a different candy flavor or variety.
- Keep building, adding some decorations where it makes sense. Remember, charcuterie boards, are meant to look like a thrown-together smorgasbord so don’t overthink this too much.
- Once complete, definitely take some pictures of your masterpiece and sample a few pieces before the guests arrive (you got to make sure it’s up to par after all!)
So that’s it! There’s not much that goes into creating a spooky-themed, Halloween candy charcuterie board, hence why it’s such a great Halloween hosting idea.
If you decide to make this for your Halloween party or get-together, definitely share it with me on Instagram. I’d love to see all the unique creations.
