I can’t believe it has been almost a year since my two very best friends hosted the most beautiful, cloud-themed baby shower for me. I still remember walking in and having my breath taken away. Looking back, I feel so incredibly thankful for their superb event planning skills and their impeccable eye for detail. They executed everything so perfectly.
When I was searching for baby shower theme ideas, I knew I wanted to do something a little different than what I had seen before. I tend to gravitate towards light, neutral colors so I knew I didn’t want a lot of pink or purple. Nothing against those themes, they just weren’t my vibe. When I searched cloud themes on Pinterest, I wasn’t finding as many ideas as I’d hoped for. I was left up to my imagination, and a little inspiration from some other themes I’d seen, to put together ideas for my cloud-themed baby shower. I’m sharing my all my tips and details from my shower with you below, so keep reading!
Planning the party.
The first thing I recommend is to decide how many guests you anticipate and where you want to throw your shower. The spring and summer months are full of weddings, graduation parties, and showers so securing this detail early on is the most important. You can work on the fun, tiny details afterward.
- Create a tentative guest list. This will give you a good indication on how much space you’ll need.
- Put together a list of date options. When seeking out venues, you’ll want to have a few date options
- If you plan to throw your shower at a friend and family’s home, reach out early on. Make sure there are no conflicts on their end.
- If you’re opting for a venue, seek out the venues in your area and schedule tours with any that you’re interested in. Take advantage of these options! You can usually get a good feel for the space when you see it in person.
Once you’ve nailed down your date and venue, the fun planning can begin!
Deciding on a theme.
The venue I chose was Highlife Event Studios in Downtown Columbus. The space was bright and white with a lot of natural light, so my On Cloud Nine theme was going to be perfect. My recommendation is to hone in on your theme once you nail down your venue. This will ensure the space meets the vibe check for what you have in mind.
For instance, let’s say you’re hosting the shower at a family member’s home. Maybe they have a farmhouse-style home. This would be a great opportunity to go for a rustic theme, or maybe a garden party theme. Working with the space you have will go a long way in setting the tone for the decor and ambiance. For my theme, I knew I wanted clouds (or should I say faux clouds LOL) everywhere. I had seen a bunch of inspo on Pinterest so I made a mood board from my Pins and got to planning.
My best friend, Emily immediately took over, making sure that the only thing I had to do on the day of was walk in and take it all in. I am forever grateful for her making this day feel so magical and special for me. She took my mood board and did what she does best, execute!
Plan your menu.
I’ve always adopted the mindset, that the food and ambiance make an event. It doesn’t matter where you throw your shower, if you put special touches on it (whether big or small) your guests will love it. For me, having delicious food is important so I made sure to have some of my party favorites!
here was the menu lineup for my shower
- chicken, ham, and egg salad sandwiches on a croissants
- pimento cheese sandwiches
- veggie cups with ranch dip
- Italian pasta salad
- deviled eggs
- Romaine salad with prosciutto + French vinaigrette
- fruit with cream cheese dip
- creamy ranch + bacon dip with Ritz crackers
- veggie pizza with ranch cream cheese spread
For the desserts, I wanted to make sure that there was no shortage of sweets! I had an almond-flavored cake, which is my absolute favorite, vanilla cupcakes, glazed donuts, pretzels with white chocolate, white M&M’s, and white rock candy (Only white-colored desserts were going to suffice here given the cloud theme!)
Let’s talk decor!
This is where the planning gets fun! I’m a DIY’er so I went to Pinterest for inspo. I knew I wanted to create beautiful cloud centerpieces, so I got to work. This was one element of the planning that I wanted to have full creative control over. I ended up creating these beautiful star and moon centerpieces that honestly tied the whole theme together so perfectly.
How I created my star + moon centerpieces
These centerpieces were so fun to create. I put together a YouTube Short that shows exactly how I created these star and moon centerpieces in case you want to create your own. Visit my Amazon Storefront where I have a curation of items you’ll need to put these together.
I also decided to create the signage for my shower. This is another aspect of the decor that can really save you some money but still create a vibe. I chose a font family that I loved and created various pieces on Canva. I grabbed some gold frames from Goodwill and DollarTree and created signage. It tied everything together so nicely and created a flow for my guests when they arrived. (Aka, it told them where to get the mimosas!)
Time to enjoy the moment.
The last element of the shower was to decide on my outfit. I knew I wanted to wear white (obviously) so I found a beautiful midi dress with puff sleeves (clouds, duh?). I paired it with some blush pink stacked heels that were surprisingly so comfortable. I figured adding a touch of pink made sense!
Did I mention my sister and cousin were also pregnant at the same time and we all had our babies 11 days apart? Of course, we had to document that!
So, there you have it, your guide to throwing the most heavenly, in-the-clouds, baby shower! It’s also worth mentioning that you could use this theme for a bridal shower too, really for any time you feel…well, on cloud nine!
